pally

i have a 2000 patrol wagon with the 4.5l petrol manual version, i am unsure whether to sell it off and guy different 4x4 or whether to mod this one. i want to do a trip through the top end of australai late 2010 as i have driven the south and east of australia numerous times. if i should get a different rig what should i be looking for ie easiest to mod and get parts for. toyota is prefered as my family has always had them and never had a problem but i also like the patrols
What ever u decide to get if u get another vehicle make sure it's a desiel, but remember you've already had this 1 for a while and know it's faults already, so if you get another vehicle just remember you will have to learn all of it's faults before you set about on a big trip into the middle of nowhere, but i'd deffinately be going a desiel...CoolCool
keep the patrol there easy as to mod. Maybe wack it on the lpg im a fan.
I think I have to agree with Rev... if you going to the top end I'd suggest a diesel. I spent many years in Darwin and surrounding areas and have to say that diesel parts are much easier to hold of than petrol parts. It's also safer... I'd rather carry extra diesel than petrol (less of a bang should anything go wrong). The other thing (and god forbid any Toyo drivers read this) is that Cruiser parts are more readily available off the shelf than Patrol parts. The locals up there will tell you it's because it's Cruiser country, I reckon it's just coz the Trols dont f#@k up as often.
Hope that has helped a bit mate
I agree with Fatboy and Rev
Go the diesel. Travelled extensively throughout the top end of OZ with a petrol cruiser and found that I was limited to some places unless I carried my own fuel. Which in mind isnt a safe option.
Even if you go petrol/gas there are still places that dont have either. But no matter where you are you can always get diesel. All the stations up there have diesel supplies so worst case scenario you can purchase from them.
Cruiser/Patrol...... 6 the one half dozen the other..your choice but keep in mind that most stations and places will carry more toyota parts then patrol parts as fatboy said its cruiser country up there...and not because they f**k up (fatboy) its because Northerners have more sense then to waste their money on city folk cars then real mens 4x4s
